A szkoda, bo Sugarland Express to przede wszystkim zabawna i urocza historia przypominająca o tym, że twórca Listy Schindlera i Szeregowca Ryana zawsze miał świetne poczucie humoru. W Sugarland Express Spielberg zabiera nas w szaloną podróż z dwojgiem zdesperowanych rodziców, którzy podczas rozpaczliwej próby odzyskania dziecka, odebranego im przez pomoc społeczną, porwali policjanta. Bonnie i Clyde w realiach Ameryki klasy B? Tak, ale z masą empatii względem bohaterów i ogromną dozą bezpretensjonalnego uroku.

A hidden gem in the filmography of one of cinema’s greatest storytellers, Sugarland Express is Steven Spielberg’s first theatrical feature. Despite winning Best Screenplay at Cannes and featuring a warmly received performance by Goldie Hawn, it remains one of his lesser-known works—though it deserves a far bigger spotlight. Sugarland Express is first and foremost a funny and charming story that reminds us that the director of Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan has always had a great sense of humor. He takes us on a wild ride with two parents embarking on a desperate mission to reclaim their child from social services—kidnapping a police officer in the process. Think Bonnie and Clyde, but with Spielberg’s innate empathy for his characters, a lighter, more comedic touch, and a huge dose of unpretentious charm.
